The Western Islands
The capital city and centre of the Chum trading empire. The city is set on a hill above a huge artificial harbour in the northern coast of the desertlands. The harbour is the base for the Chum trading ships and a fleet of fast galleys which are used to enforce Chum rule over the Northern Sea. The city is a republic ruled by a council of elders from the leading noble families. They elect two Suffets (magistrates or ministers) annually to govern the city. Each noble family has its own trading ships and they compete vigorously.
The Chum worship several gods, but the main one is Baal Chumaat and his consort Tanit, whose temples are at the top of the hill in the centre of the city. The Chum hire huge numbers of mercenaries who are arranged into units commanded by Chum officers.
